Greek Film Festival Digital Campaign

Improving upon an existing brand’s digital campaign’s rebrand

The Greek Film Festival is an international, annual event that showcases the latest cinematic releases from Greece and Greek film directors. In 2023, a new promotion was required to introduce the festival’s lineup with a refreshed visual style, blending tradition with a modern twist to engage a younger audience within the Greek Australian community. To achieve this, a series of animated web page banners and a short animated advertisement sequence were created, each featuring hand-drawn, sketchy illustrations from various Greek films, offering an authentic taste of the culture for both traditional and younger demographics.

OVERVIEW

The Greek Film Festival is an international and yearly festival event showcasing the latest releases of cinematic films from Greece and Greek film directors. For decades, the Greek Film Festival has been bringing the best Greek films to cinema lovers in Sydney and Melbourne. The Festival gives Australian audiences a rare opportunity to see contemporary and classic Greek cinema on the big screen.

CHALLENGE

Building upon a prior project of animated GIF advertisements, this is a chance to explore fresh techniques and incorporate them into The Greek Film Festival's digital campaign. The current brand elements require a revitalized appearance to engage and attract the desired audience. The target demographic consists of a younger age group of Greek Australians and individuals interested in the culture, bridging the gap between the old and appealing to a younger audience.

SOLUTION

Modernizing a traditional concept can captivate a fresh audience. To achieve this, focus on digital branding through web page banners and a concise 30-second animated ad sequence. These promotional materials should showcase hand-drawn, sketchy illustrations of various Greek films, offering an authentic glimpse into the local culture of the mainland.

OUTCOME

This project taught me how to take an old piece of graphic design work and elevate it into something worth expanding on as a digital campaign. This allowed me to improve my skills further and take my greatest strengths into my work.
