OVERVIEW

Classic Cinemas is a cinema company located in Elsternwick Melbourne Victoria that specialises in quality mainstream and arthouse cinema. Believing in the complete 'cinematic experience' the company is seeking out a way to promote their all-new and upcoming Vintage Film Festival 2022 season event for families, young adult and older seniors.

CHALLENGE

In order to get Classic Cinemas' new event promoted in a captivating way for both new and older audiences, these posters are a modernised representation of classic cinema and explore its core characteristic of storytelling from iconic movies from
the Golden Age.

SOLUTION

Enhancing the complete ‘cinematic experience’, with the use of the Artivive app. Artivive is an augmented reality platform for art and with this app, the Vintage Film Festival posters animate in a stop-motion collage animation to promote the rescreening of cinematic classic movies.

OUTCOME

The poster designs are made up of screenshots from an iconic scene from each of the movies along with secondary objects that make up the movie’s theme. The movies include Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain. The images were edited in Photoshop and with these assets, the posters were put together in Illustrator, and every single edited frame was animated individually in After Effects, moving from place to place in time with the other elements of the poster.

This creates an entirely fresh "cinematic experience," captivating not only the nostalgic older audience who grew up with these films but also igniting the curiosity of a new generation of younger individuals. As a mixed media masterpiece, it seamlessly melds the realms of print and motion, marrying its simple yet elegant image collage poster designs with a dynamic portrayal of characters brought to life through the Artitive app. All in all, it offers a mesmerizing portal for everyone to relish the timeless charm of the Golden Age of Cinema Classics
